The Path to General is the 14th chapter of the Kingdom Manga.
Summary
Heki, a soldier under Shou Bun Kun explains to Shin what happened after Shou Bun Kun had fallen from the cliff and into the river. Soldiers surrounded the carriage containing Ei Sei's decoy. As the soldier's morale starts to loosen, Hyou leaps out of the carriage and kicks an enemy from his mount down to the ground, on horseback Hyou encourages the soldiers to continue fighting. Hyou orders some troops to go find Shou Bun Kun, noticing a number of troops coming from a hill on their left flank. Hyou charges the enemies himself, engaging the troops alone. The last time Heki and the rest of Shou Bun Kun's soldiers had seen him he was still heavily engaged in battle. They mourn for Hyou in shame.
Shin and Ka Ryo Ten sit aside from the soldiers, Ka Ryo Ten doesn't know what's going to happen next. After thinking a while Shin stands and walks towards Ei Sei, referring to the king as Ei Sei upsets a number of the soldiers but Ei Sei forgives Shin's impudence. Shin explains how he never really had a plan to become a Great General and that he was just going to follow Hyou towards their dream. With no direction, Shin asks how he can become a General. Ei Sei answers that he cannot since he is a slave, only nobles and regular citizens are recruited into the army, Shou Bun Kun and Heki both explain to Shin how hard it is to become general. Shin recognizes what he must do and offers to help Ei Sei take the throne back but in return, Ei Sei will free him from being a slave and give him a portion of land. Ei Sei agrees, with his direction chosen Shin vows to work even harder toward his goal.
