Why We Thirst is the 676th chapter of the Kingdom manga, written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara.
Synopsis
A group of Zhao refugees are in the middle of escaping from the battlefield. Meanwhile in Ou Sen's HQ all the officers are discussing their strategy. Sou'Ou believes now is a good time to attack the cities of Heiyou and Bujou. A Kou proposes that his army will force open a path but Den Ri Mi thinks it's a bad idea, since if they do that then Ko Chou and his army could flank them. It also seems like Kan Ki is preparing to fight Ko Chou head on. They ask their lord what they should do, and he says that they will observe the situation for now, because Kan Ki's thoughts elude even him.
Meanwhile in the Zhao capital of Kantan, Ri Haku and Kou Son Ryuu meet. They also discuss the matter of Ko Chou facing Kan Ki. Ri Haku thinks that if Kan Ki is preparing to fight Ko Chou head on then he should meet a bloody end. Kou Son Ryuu answers that he should not underestimate Kan Ki, since he took down Gen Pou among many other esteemed ones. Ri Haku says that it's Qin who makes light of Ko Chou, since he was originally a fierce general who rampaged his way on the frontlines of Yan and scored many great achievements. Ri Haku who was also fighting on Yan frontlines during those battles have witnessed this.
In Kan Ki's HQ, Ma Ron is stress out due to huge number of Zhao soldiers that they are about to face. Kan Ki apparently left things to him and went back to his tent. Ma Ron is thinking they have no chance of winning and they will all die. Rai Do gets angry at him and says to shut up and that they should trust in their boss, since he was always leading them to victory.
Ma Ron replies that it was because before they were fighting on a different scale then now and they had the element of surprise. Rai Do says that the booze they were drinking back during their time as a gang of bandits was much better than the one, they are drinking now despite them taking it from the nobles.
It's because they are not "thirsty" it doesn't taste the same way, however, Kan Ki is different. Even after becoming one of the Six Great Generals, he's become even more crazy than before. He then leaves to join the right wing and after the battle they will get drunk. He also asks what exactly Kan Ki is fighting for. At the end, the battle between Kan Ki and Ko Chou officially starts.
